I am a big fan of John Legend and Jhene Aiko. When I heard they performed at the BET Awards, I was a little bummed that I didn’t get a chance to see it. However, I don’t watch award shows and haven’t for about 24 years. Plus, now that I live in the future, I knew that I would be able to find a copy of the video online somewhere. BET had the video on their site (thanks guys) AND they allow embedding. Sorry about the auto-play.
I have always dug this song and while a lot of people may have gotten sick of it, I still haven’t. The fact that Prince is on the guitar for this performance makes it that much better.
Fair Verona is one of those bands that I liked from the first time I heard them, but by that time, they had already broken up. This is one of the few videos that I can find on YouTube. The sound quality isn’t that great, but this is still pretty cool. Also, Beth Cameron was the first artist who let me play their music when I asked nicely.
I’m not sure, but I think the band Detroit Crunk Star changed their name to Dirty Mitten Funk Band. If so, I think this is a much better name without any ties to the ‘crunk’ movement that The South is known for. Also, they use the phrase ‘dirty mitten funk’ in several of their songs. Great new choice.
The first time I heard this song was on Evil Genius Chronicles and I knew I had to play it on the show. If you know me, then you know that I absolutely HATE to play songs that I know other people have already played, but I made an exception in this case because it was played by my podcast godfather Dave Slusher, and it is such a cool song.
Fleet Foxes is on Sub Pop Records, which had very podcast friendly terms on their website very early in the game. The song ‘White Winter Hymnal’ was the first one I had ever heard by the band and it immediately grabbed me.
The Thermals are on Sub Pop Records, which, like a lot of podcasters, was one of the first sources of podsafe music that I was able to use to create a show with. Subpop.com is still one of my favorite places to get music.
This is another of my favorite songs and it is another one by The Jealous Sound and once again I am sure I played it more than once on the show. I think it is ridiculous that The Jealous Sound isn’t as big as I think they should be.
This is one of my favorite songs and I have played it on the show, probably more than once. This isn’t an official video, but one that has the lyrics, which is pretty cool.
Remember when MTV showed cool, innovative videos that made you want to go out and buy records because you wanted to take the music you heard with you? Well, records are gone, MTV shows reality shows and it is easier to download for free than it is to go to the store and buy something. Well, there are still cool and innovative music videos out in the wild.
This is from the debut album by Is Tropical and is one of the most “violent” videos I have seen in a long time. You have to watch it to find out exactly why the word “violent” is in quotes. I tend to gravitate towards music videos with a story or cool visual effects. This one has both. The capper is the song is pretty catchy as well.
